Students of the Master’s Programme in Translational Medicine, students of the Systems Biology and Medicine study track in the Master’s Programme in Life Science Informatics. Number of participants is limited to 30 students.

TMED-909 Human Anatomy and Physiology (TRANSMED students)

After the course, students will understand the basics of pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics and pharmacogenetics, and will be able to apply this knowledge to research. In addition, they will receive more detailed knowledge of the drugs used in one selected therapy area.

Period IV, first study year. The course is arranged annually.

- General principles of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics
- Detailed analyses of the action of drugs, their side effects and clinical use in selected therapeutic areas
- Insights into the principles of pharmacogenetics, its research methods and applications in drug development and patient care

The selected therapeutic areas and drug actions will be informed later.

Recommended and required literature: Rang, Ritter, Flower and Henderson: Rang and Dale's Pharmacology. 8th edition, Elsevier, 2015. Selected chapters

A flipped classroom approach is used. The students become familiar with the topic prior to teaching, do assignments and prepare presentations. The topics are discussed in interactive seminar sessions.

The course is graded on a scale of 0–5. Grading is based on the examination (100%).

Completion requires participation in all three seminar sessions, completion of all assignments and a passing grade on the exam. Grading is based on the exam (100%).
