Students of all programmes and faculties, international students, JOO-students.
Students have learned Chinese for more than 2 years in China or 3 years out of China; Students have a command of 2000 Chinese words and a certain amount of grammars. If you are unsure about your level before registering, contact the course teacher during her office hour.
After completing the course, students are expected to be able to: 1. Understand a wide range of topics, produce correct sentences, create cohesive discourse, and express themselves fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions. 2. Communicate with native speakers, achieving a relatively high level in speaking Chinese; 3. Acquire clear and natural pronunciation and intonation in everyday communication. 4. Have a clear understanding of Chinese culture and know the differences and similarities between Chinese culture and their own.
The course topics include education in China, Chinese food culture, travelling, Chinese movies, love and marriage in China, protecting environment, etc. Learners will gain further insight into language structures, expand their vocabulary, as well as improve their listening comprehension, intonation and speech production. Language use situations: conversation strategies, argumentation, composition of a structured presentation.

Presentations, oral exercises in pairs and in groups, as well as independent work (home assignments, essays, online assignments).
This is a pass/fail course. Evaluation is based on the aspects mentioned under the course objectives. Continuous evaluation: small review tests, regular and active participation in classroom work, completion of the home assignments.
This is a teacher-instructed course with 26 hours of contact teaching and 28 hours of independent work. Minimum course attendance: 75%.
