Chinese Culture 1, Chinese Writing
After completing the course, students are expected to have increased their Chinese vocabulary through reading, watching and listening to topics on Chinese culture; express their own opinions in fluent Chinese on topics related to Chinese culture; read authentic articles on Chinese media and from books on Chinese culture; make presentation on specific topic and write small paper on Chinese culture.
Comparative study of various aspects of Chinese culture will be introduced to explore the essence of Chinese culture. The common ground and differences between Chinese-Western cultural phenomena will be discussed. Topics vary from differences between Chinese and western painting, architecture, to different literature traditions and etc.

This is a pass/fail course. Assessment is based on the aspects mentioned under the course learning outcomes. Continuous evaluation: regular and active participation in classroom activities, completion of the assignments, the presentation and the final written work.
This is a teacher-instructed course with 28 hours of contact teaching and 26 hours of independent work. At least 75% class attendance is required in order to get the credits. Submit the final written work and deliver required oral presentation.
