Master’s students in the EEB preparing to work on the Masters thesis.
The aim of the course is that the student
- improves the skills in critically reading scientific literature
- gets a general idea of the background of the field of his/her Masters thesis
- understands the basic concepts and general theories in the field of his/her Masters thesis
- develops in planning the problem setting and the time table of his/her Masters thesis
Prior to initiating the Masters thesis.
General background, ideas, themes, theories and the methods used in the field of the Masters thesis.
The student will select a book (200-300 pp) or collect a set of scientific articles on the topic of the Masters thesis with the help of the supervisor. The student is expected to study the material in order to be able to answer questions on the themes selected from the material.
Public book exams are organized twice a month.
Recommended a scientific monograph on the field of the Masters thesis, alternatively a collection of related scientific articles.
Written book exam 1-5. The answers are expected to be short essays answering to the questions. The evaluation is based on the mastering of the subject and the quality of the presentation.
The material for the examination is to be agreed with the teacher receiving the examination. The teacher receiving the examination if one of the teachers in the Masters program.
