Evolutionary Biology EEB-002
The aim of the course is that the student · improves the skills in critically reading scientific literature · deepens her/his understanding of the concepts and mechanisms of evolution from the level of genes to species. · learn basic theories e.g. in evolutionary genetics, speciation or phylogenetics, or any other topic of evolutionary biology.
Recommended prior to initiating the Master’s thesis
General background, ideas, themes, theories and the methods used in the field of the evolutionary biology
The student will select a scientific book or books (400-500 pp) addressing problems in evolutionary biology. The student is expected to study the material in order to be able to answer questions on the themes selected from the material in a public examination.
The student chooses, in an agreement with the examinator, a scientific monograph or monographs in the field of the evolutionary biology.
Written book exam 1-5. The answers are expected to be short essays answering to the questions. The evaluation is based on the mastering of the subject and the quality of the presentation.
The material for the examination is to be agreed with the teacher receiving the examination (examinator). The examinator is one of the teachers in the Masters program.
