Veterinary students (4-6th year) of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

Basic knowledge of conducting behaviour consultations in a veterinary context.

Spring term 2018, week 2.

Ethology; Learning theory and applied learning theory; Counseling, basic psychology, understand of client needs; History taking; Basic knowledge of the etiology of the most common behavioural problems in dogs and cats, emotional states and disorders that result in behaviour problems; Psychopharmacology; Treatment of behaviour problems, development of treatment programs; The interrelationship between some behaviour problems, pathology and welfare issues.

Students will be directed to further literature/papers according to study subject, the cases they see and follow up

Passed/failed. Essay (relevance of ethology to behaviour problems), casebook, preparation and presentation of case study to peer group.

Teaching language is English (and partly Finnish).

Seminar lectures, directed and assessed self study (1.5 credits)

Individual attendance of behaviour consultation (0.5 credit)

Case study based on the case seen (assessed work). With individual consent the case studies will be shared with other students submitting case studies so each has a portfolio of case examples. (1 credit)

Optional activities during and post elective will be offered.

The maximum number of participants is 12 students.
