This course is open for ECAR residents and other veterinary professionals (limited seats available).

The course includes 3 full days of lectures on all aspects of equine reproduction, with two full days of practical sessions in small groups. Teachers include Maria Kareskoski (DVM, PhD, DiplECAR), Jutta Sielhorst (DVM, DiplECAR), Tiina Reilas (DVM, PhD) and Isa Immonen (DVM, Veterinary Specialist in Equine Medicine, ECAR resident).

Course fees:
Full course fee: 1100 euros (lectures and practicals, incl. lunch and coffee)
Lectures only: 500 euros (incl. lunch and coffee)

SPEAKERS

Jutta Sielhorst is a Diplomate of the European College of Animal Reproduction (DiplECAR) and is currently affiliated with the Tierärztliche Hochschule Hannover and the equine hospital Tierärztliches Kompetenzzentrum Karthaus. She obtained her veterinary degree in 2006 and received her specialty training at the University of Hannover in Germany. Her research interests include ultrasonography of the late pregnant mare, use of Doppler ultrasonography in the pregnant mare and functionality of the pregnant uterus.

Tiina Reilas (maiden name Kotilainen), DVM, PhD is a research scientist in Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke). She graduated in 1983 from the College of Veterinary Medicine in Helsinki and got her PhD from the University of Helsinki in 2001. Tiina has over 30 years of experience as a stud farm veterinarian, theriogenology educator and researcher. She has conducted research on postbreeding inflammation, reproductive efficiency, estrus suppression and other equine reproduction topics.

Maria Kareskoski DVM, PhD, DiplECAR, veterinary specialist in equine medicine is a clinical instructor at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Helsinki, and has been with the faculty for the last 15 years.

Isa Immonen DVM, veterinary specialist in equine medicine is an ECAR resident working with equine reproduction. She has received her residency training at the Utrecht University and at the University of Helsinki.

Description

Eläinlääketieteen lisensiaatin koulutusohjelma, 6. vsk:n opiskelijat.

Esitietovaatimuksena eläinlääketieteen kandidaatintutkinto sekä 4. ja 5. vuoden eläinlääketieteen lisensiaatintutkinnon opinnot.

Tavoitteena on osata tutkia siemennettävä ja tiine tamma, sekä hoitaa niiden lisääntymiseen liittyviä sairauksia; kerätä ja tutkia oriin spermaa; tutkia ori ja sen lisääntymiselimet.

Kevätlukukausi 2020, viikko 17.

Hyväksytty/hylätty

Kurssille voidaan ottaa 10 opiskelijaa käytännön harjoituksiin, luento-osuudelle (1 op) voidaan ottaa yhteensä 20 opiskelijaa. Opiskelijat valitaan hakemusten perusteella ensin koko kurssille (sis. käytännön harjoitukset) ja tämän jälkeen ilmoittautumisjärjestyksessä luento-osuuteen.
