FINN-114, 3 cr

After completing the course, you will

  • Be able to pronounce Finnish
  • Understand the vocabulary of the course topics
  • Be able to introduce and provide basic information about yourself and your family
  • Be able to communicate in the most common service encounters as well as certain frequent social situations in Finnish
  • Be able to write brief messages on everyday topics
  • Be familiar with certain central features of Finnish everyday life and culture

FINN-114, 5 cr

After completing the course, you will

Kurssi järjestetään joka lukukausi.

Aihepiirejä ovat mm. esittäytyminen, tervehdysfraasit, perhe, ruoka, kaupassa asiointi, aika, sää, liikkuminen ja lähiympäristö. Kontaktiopetuksen lisäksi annetaan paljon kotitehtäviä. Kursseilla harjoitellaan yksinkertaisia arkikeskusteluja. Tavoitteena on tutustuttaa opiskelijaa suomen kielen perusrakenteiden lisäksi myös jonkin verran suomalaiseen elämäntapaan. Kaikkien vaihto-opiskelijoiden kannattaa tutustua verkkomateriaaliin A Taste of Finnish http://tasteoffinnish.fi/. Kurssi arvioidaan loppukokeen perusteella asteikolla 0–5. Loppukokeeseen voi osallistua vain, jos on ollut kurssilla läsnä vähintään 50 %. Säännöllinen osallistuminen opetukseen (yli 80 %) on erittäin suositeltavaa.

The topics of the course range from introducing and telling about oneself to greetings, family, food, shopping, weather and telling the time. In addition to contact lessons, students are responsible for homework. The course also includes exercises on everyday conversations. The topics also include daily activities, living, transport and the immediate surroundings. The aim is to introduce students not only to the basic structures of Finnish, but also to the Finnish way life. The course will be assessed on the basis of a final examination on a scale of 0–5. Please note that one can only attend the final exam if one has participated in at least 50 % of the course. Regular class attendance (over 80%) is highly recommended. All the students are supposed to familiarize with A Taste of Finnish http://tasteoffinnish.fi/ before the course starts.   • The course consists of contact teaching, pair and group work, as well as independent study.
  • Students are expected to actively participate during classes and complete home assignments.
  • Attendance of 80% is strongly recommended,
  • while 50% attendance is required for completing the course.

  • FINN-114, 5 cr: The assessment is based on potential interim examinations and a final examination, as well as potential course assignments and participation during the course.
  • The weight given to the different assessment factors will be announced at the beginning of the course.
