Description

The course is compulsory for Food Sciences master’s students. The course is available for other students with bachelor level knowledge in food sciences.

Bachelor level knowledge in Food Sciences

After the course the student can explain the theory and working principle of conventional processing technologies (e.g. preservation and separation methods) used in food industry and their effects on food materials. The student can give detailed and illustrative examples of conventional processing technologies and their real-life applications. Group working, networking and debating skills are intended learning outcomes of this course.

1st year,

Period I

The conventional food processes: e.g. preservation and separation methods.

Literature and study realisation will be described at the first course meeting.

Lectures given by the teachers, debates of the groups of the students.

The grade is based on examination (50%) and group work including report, teaching seminars and acting as an opponent (50%). The performance will be graded using a scale of 0-5.

Kurssin voi suorittaa myös suomen tai ruotsin kielellä.

Contact teaching 20 h, group work 30 h, self study 30 h. Participation in group work and debates. Attendance at 90% of debating seminars and group meetings with the teacher is compulsory.
