This course is compulsory (and available) for those students who wish to enroll the courses FOOD-604 Advanced Lectures in Packaging Technology and FOOD-603 Packaging Technology, lab work, but do not have sufficient previous studies (basic knowledge) of food packaging technology.
After passing the exam, the student understands the basics of food packaging technology: purpose and roles of packaging for food, is able to identify different packaging materials and machinery and understands requirements of different types of food for their packaging.
1st year (prior to FOOD-604 Advanced lectures in packaging technology and FOOD-603 Packaging technology laboratory work).
Basics of the food packaging.
Packaging Technology: Fundamentals, Materials and Processes by Anne Emblem and Henry Emblem (2012), Excluding chapter 21 (Hazards). E-book available through university library.
Written exam, graded using a scale of 0–5.
This exam is available only for those students, who cannot participate the bachelor level course (in Finnish) ETK-250 Pakkausteknologian perusteet.
Literature examination in a general exam day (2 hours).
