The course will consists of 6-7 meetings of one hour during I and II period, there after each student will make a research plan and will realise it. The research lasts at maximum one week, the work will be written out in a poster in English and a presentation (5 min) is given at the Helmi Colloquium meeting. This meeting is for Grain Science and Technology students and Alumnies. The Alumnies are all the MSc and DSc of Grain Science and Technology. The meeting is very popular, this semester (lukukausi) it will be held at Fazer Mills and Bakeries Lahti, on 7th of February 2020, starting at 12.00 (tentative timetable).
BSc in food science, or 100 cr studies of relevance in food science.
Student can use the problem-based learning approach to study challenging questions in grain science and technology. Student learns to explore scientific data sources, make research plans and execute small research works. After the course the student can plan and carry out a study to solve clearly outlined, small research problem and report the study orally and in writing.
1st- 2nd year, Period I
Problem-based learning method applied, working in a group. Literature search, writing an own research plan and executing a one week (at most) laboratory research work. Writing a poster and giving an oral presentation at the Helmi Colloquio, Grain Science and Technology Student - Alumni meeting.
Literature searched on a topic related with the given question.
Problem solving in group, reporting orally and in writing.
The grading using scale 0-5.
