Conduct of the course

To get a credit from this course code, contact the teacher. Under this course code a student can combine several smaller sub-accomplishments. For example, you can participate to seminars or conferences related to geography or GIS. In addition, sometimes the geography discipline organizes smaller pop-up-courses that are smaller than the official 5 cr limit. You can even add written assignements to this course code. In other words, you can publish scientific essays, writings book reviews, or review articles in some geographical scientific journal.

Possible sub-accomplishments that can be accepted:
- Unofficial GIS-courses provided by CSC – IT CENTER FOR SCIENCE LTD or the National Land Survey.
- PhD-examinations in geography
- A participation or presentation in international or national conferences in geography.
- Smaller pop-up courses (1-4 credits) provided by the department of geosciences and geography, University of Helsinki. This kind of courses are not available every year.
- Scientific writings (essays, book reviews, review articles, or scientific articles published in some scientific journal in geography.

After this course student can follow independently and critically advances in the field geography. Student can search independently more information about improving methods, devices and data sources. Students expands his/her skills about the current topics of geography.

The recommended time for completion is in 1.-2. year of M.Sc. Studies

The course is offered all year round

Course consists of various topical teaching events of geography (1-5 credits each). Student collect a free choice set of totally 5 credits.

Grading 0-5 as weighted average.
