It is highly recommended that the student has completed ICE-302 Intercultural Communication, 5 cr.
Upon completion of this course, students will be familiar with the concepts, approaches and theories of language use, social interaction and interpersonal communication. Students will understand and be able to critically analyse the role of culture and cultural diversity in everyday interactions and social relations.
The first or second year of ICE studies. The course is offered every second academic year.
The course draws on knowledge of and literature in interpersonal communication, language and social interaction, and culture and relating. The focus will be on pragmatic theories of language and social interaction, on perspectives on cultural communication, and on both formal and informal relationships.
The literature will be assigned and provided by the teacher of the course.
The assessment practices and criteria will be in accordance with the University of Helsinki’s criteria. They will be specified for each course by the respective teacher. The University of Helsinki’s grading scale of 0–5 will be applied.
Contact teaching; the attendance requirement is 75%.
