Master's Programme in Materials Research is responsible for the course.

Module where the course belongs to:

  • MATR300 Advanced Studies in Materials Research.
    Compulsory for:
    1. Study Track in Polymer Materials Chemistry

The course is not available to students from other degree programmes.

Before starting the research project students should have actively studied for one year in the masters programme.

During the research project the students learn in-depth practical skills on polymerizations and/or characterization of polymer materials. The aim of the research project is to emphasize project management.

During the second year of the studies, in close connection with the Master's thesis.

The research project can be done year around, as agreed with the Master's thesis supervisor.

Research on an assigned topic.

Required reference articles will be indicated by the supervisor, and further literature searched by the student as needed.

Daily communication with the assigned supervisor.

The assessment is based on daily performance in the laboratory and the written report. Scale is pass or fail. Supervisor will register the grade after the final discussions.

The course is accomplished by conducting research on an assigned topic. The topic is an extension or closely related to the Master's thesis. To start the research project you have to fill the Plan for the MSc thesis supervision according the notes found from Instructions for students - Thesis Instruction: https://guide.student.helsinki.fi/en/node/392?degree_programme_code=MH50_005

During the research project the student makes notes daily into the laboratory notebook. A report will be written of the research. The report can be included in the Master's thesis as (one part of) an experimental section. To finalize the Research Project student discusses with her/his supervisor whether the initial work plan worked and if not, why.
