Description

Domestic psychology students of the University of Helsinki and international exchange students having psychology as their major subject.

This is not an introductory course, it is supposed that the participant already knows some of the basics of brain anatomy and functioning, e.g., has passed an elementary/introductory course in Neuropsychology/Biological psychology/Cognitive Neuroscience.

The student will get an overview of some current topics in cognitive neuroscience as lectured by experts from various Finnish universities and further deepen their knowledge on these topics.

Second or third year in Bachelor studies

The course is arranged by the Psykonet (Network of Psychology departments of the Finnish Universties). Lectures (in English) mediated via Internet from various Finnish Universities will be presented on wednesdays (Jan 15 to April 29).12.15-13.00, Haartman-institute, lecture room CK120. The exact lecture programme can be found on the Psykonet course page. The lectures are followed by a 20-30 min discussion on the topic of the lecture together with the local teacher.

2 cr: Attending the lectures and discussions on Wednesdays. In addition, the student has to choose two lectures accorning to his/her interests and write two essays on the basis of the lectures and review articles related to the topics of those two lectures. The review articles can be downloaded from the course Moodle page.

5 cr option only for the exchange students: The course can be extended to 5 cr by attending the lectures and discussions on Wednesdays, studying the textbook Ward: The Student's Guide to Cognitive Neuroscience (2nd/3rd Ed.) and participating on a final exam covering the lectures and the textbook. The essays are not needed for this option.
