Elective for Master students in Psychology

Course belongs to the Advanced Studies in Psychology.

Bachelor of Psychology degree, including the course Cognitive neuroscience and clinical neuropsychology or equivalent knowledge

Opintojakson suoritettuaan opiskelija osaa muodostaa tieteellisesti perustellun näkemyksen valitsemastaan aiheesta. Opiskelija osaa:

  • arvioida aihetta koskevan tutkimuksen laatua ja tiedon merkityksellisyyttä aiheen/ilmiön kannalta
  • vastata kysymykseen, mitä tästä aiheesta tällä hetkellä tiedetään ja kuinka luotettavasti sekä mitkä keskeiset kysymykset vaativat lisätutkimusta
  • osoittaa ymmärtävänsä, mikä vaikutus ilmiöllä on kliinisestä näkökulmasta yksilön kannalta tarkasteltuna
  • välittää omaksumansa tiedon tiedeyhteisölle sekä muulle yleisölle asiantuntijaroolissa

First or second year of the Master Programme

The student studies thoroughly one phenomen, concept, or theme in clinical neuropsychology, eg:

  • One acquired or develomental disorder in adults (eg. cerebral circulation disorder, brain damage, memory disorder, ADHD) and discusses the phenomenon from the point of view of cognition, emotion, and/or behaviour.
  • Comprehensive manifestation of an acquired or develomental disorder in performance; its different dimensions and in the life span.
  • Manifestation of an acquired or develomental disorder in performance affecting a certain special question (eg. questions concerning working or drinving ability).

To be agreed with the teacher. Contact the teacher by e-mail at least two months before the exam!

On the grading scale 0-5, the student gets 2/3 for the book exam (part 1) and 1/3 for communicating information as a specialist to the public (part 2).

Literature exam is completed in two parts:

1. Traditional book exam (6 cr). The study material (about a chosen clinical neuropsychological application area) is agreed with the teacher.

2. After the exam, the student writes a short popularising text (article, lecture, poster, etc.) about the area to a public of her/his choice (4 cr). The text must be handed in in two weeks after the exam.
