After completing the course, students will be familiar with the basics of the structures and practices of political decision-making in Finland and the European Union, as well as their central changes. Students will also be able to critically evaluate the political decision-making and exercise of power carried out within various institutions and apply their knowledge to analysing topical phenomena in politics and governance.
Third period of the first year of studies
The course introduces students to (1) the European Union as a political system, its institutions and decision-making, and various related approaches in the research of the field, and (2) the structures and practices of the Finnish political and administrative system from the perspective of decision-making and power, as well as related research.

The course is compulsory for all students of the Bachelor’s Programme in Politics, Media and Communication. The annually organised compulsory teaching for students of the programme is also available to students of other degree programmes, provided there are available student places. The completion methods will be annually specified in the teaching programme.
Students of other degree programmes: the same methods as for students of the Bachelor’s Programme in Politics, Media and Communication or an online book examination in the Examinarium facility. The book examination covers all the required reading and substitutes for the entire course.
