The idea of reading three classics or major contemporary theory books carefully is that the student will gain firsthand knowledge about some of the most important conceptual, theoretical and philosophical discussions in the field. Having completed this study unit, the student will have further deepened her knowledge about theories of world politics and global political economy.

First year of doctoral studies. Students can take the book examination in the examinarium system during the teaching periods.

The books in the unit cover some of the most important contemporary conceptual, theoretical and philosophical discussions in the field of World Politics.

Instructions for examinations

  • Faculty examinations are held in Porthania (Yliopistonkatu 3).
  • Faculty examinations begin at 9.00. Students must arrive by 9.30 and may leave no earlier than 9.30.
  • Students may take only writing utensils with them to their seats (no bags etc.). No programmable calculators or dictionaries are allowed.
  • Mobile phones must be switched off.
  • Examination answers must be returned to the invigilator in the examination envelope.
  • Students must provide proof of identity when submitting their answers.

This examination consists of three books the student has not read before; and of a book exam that can be taken at any time of the year (by using the electronic system of examinarium).
