Conduct of the course

During exceptional circumstances the course will be conducted via essays. Use the books mentioned in the course stream.

Description

Bachelor’s level studies in sociology

After completing the course, students will be able to apply the basic principles of one sociological tradition to designing empirical research and interpreting data. The course helps students in merging sociological concepts with the actual conduct of research.

The essay or course work will be graded on a scale of 0 to 5 (0 = Fail, 1 = Passable, 2 = Satisfactory, 3 = Good, 4 = Very good, 5 = Excellent).

The course will be completed by taking an applied online Examinarium examination based on literature. Other completion methods include an oral examination, an essay and a lecture course. The completion methods will be determined in the teaching programme.

The material for the course includes theoretical texts familiarising students with one sociological trend and the related empirical studies. Students must prove how the concepts of the said trend have been formed into a research design, research questions and empirical observations.
