Summer courses are free of charge for undergraduate students of the University of Helsinki who are enlisted as attending students at the moment of registration. This excludes a possible fee for study materials.

Online registration is for students who have Finnish identity number. Registration begins at noon 45 days before the beginning of the course.

This is an introductory course to disability in a global context. Upon completion this course, students will be familiar with disability in various cultures, especially in the global South (particularly in Africa and Central Asia). Students will also be able to identify and analyse disability in terms of human rights with a special reference to UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. In addition, students will learn about the development cooperation of disability organizations and other governmental and non-governmental organizations.

Lectures, lecture journals take-home-exam.

The language of instruction is English.

Although teaching is conducted in English, students may ask the teacher questions in Finnish during lectures. Students may also take the final exam in Finnish, in which case the course will be registered into the student register as having been completed in Finnish

Language skills levels
In order to complete the course you must already have a good command of English. The course requires a starting level of B2-C1 (CEF).

The results will appear in the University of Helsinki study register within 4-6 weeks from the examination or the assignment deadline.
