Logging in to the course and getting access to part of the course material is free of charge.
In case you want course credits to be registered in the University of Helsinki study register you should pay a study fee.

The fee is 15 euros
The fee is payable upon registration through an online bank transfer.
The course is free of charge for undergraduate students and exchange students of the University of Helsinki who are enlisted as attending students at the moment of registration.


This course is an open online course which is available for everyone.
If you are interested in Finnish political culture and system join the course. Registration begins on Tue 2 February 2016.
You can log in as a guest if you want to take a look at the course. If you want to participate in the course you have to create an account at https://mooc.helsinki.fi/.

Full access as a student
For full access to the course you'll need to take a minute to create a new account for yourself on mooc.helsinki.fi.
Here are the steps:
1. Fill out the New Account form with your own details.
An email will be immediately sent to your email address.
2. Read your email, and click on the web link it contains.
Your account will be confirmed and you will be logged in.
3. Now, select the course Finnish Political Culture and System.
Enrolment key is (FPCspring2016). This will "enrol" you in the course.
You can now access the full course. From now on you will only need to enter your personal username and password to log in.

The purpose of this course is to explore the Finnish political system and culture from a wide perspective, including recent research in social psychology.

After taking this course, the student will be able to describe the various components of the Finnish political system, have an
understanding of some of the shaping forces of the political thinking and values; the student will be able to describe the role and functions
of the various actors in the political arena in Finland. The student will also have a preliminary understanding of the Finnish foreign policy.

Online course
The online learning environment will open on Tue 2 February 2016.

1 credit: 10 videoed lessons + course literature + multiple choice exam 1
3 credits: 10 videoed lessons + course literature + online discussions + multiple choice exams 1&2
5 credits: 10 videoed lessons + course literature + online discussions + multiple choice exams + essay

The course can be completed either as 1 credit, 3 credits or 5 credits.

If you wish to gain credits for this course, you can registrate and complete the course for 1, 3 or 5 credits.

You should complete the whole course (5 credits) if:
1) you are studying Social Psychology at the Open University of University of Helsinki and will use the course for study unit SP029,
2) you are a degree student in the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Helsinki, or
3) you are planning to become a degree student of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Helsinki, and you wish to include this course in your degree.

The course will be graded using the standard scale (0-5).

This course is an open university course including one or three credits. Please note that the course does not belong to degree requirements of Faculty of Social Science.
