Kuvaus

Primarily for the Master’s students specializing in Animal Nutrition, Animal Science or in related disciplines.

Basics in feed evaluation and animal nutrition are required. Preceding studies include completed courses such as Chemical composition and nutritive value of feeds, Nutrition of ruminants, Nutrition and production of swine and poultry or equivalent courses.

After the course student is familiar with special characteristics and function of ruminant digestive system and knows how it affects feeding, feeding behaviour and wellbeing of the ruminant animal. The student is also able to understand how the ruminant nutrition is attributed to efficiency of nutrient utilization, milk and meat production and environmental emissions.

Period II, in uneven years.

  • Ruminants in the world.
  • Function of ruminant digestive tract.
  • Feed intake, rumen fermentation and digestion kinetics of feed nutrients.
  • Digestion, absorption and intermediary metabolism of nutrients.
  • Ruminant nutrition and feeding in relation to production, product quality and emissions.

Lectures, assignments. Attendance at the lectures and exercises are required.

24 h lectures, 12 h exercises 12 h, 99 h independent study
