Are you interested in films and television and their cultural and societal relevance?

During the course you will get familiar with the central questions and focus areas of film and television studies and its relations to the cultural and societal relevance of the discipline. You will also be able to place knowledge pertaining to film culture into the context of more general questions of art studies.

Arrangements for students in need of special support

The course is organized in co-operation with the Bachelor’s Programme in Art Studies (Film and television studies). The Bachelor’s Programme in Art Studies arranges the course in which the Open University students (max 30 students) attend. They registrate themselves via Open University's study programme (Enrol).

Open University reserves the right to make changes to the study programme.

No prior studies or knowledge is required.

After completing the course, you will be familiar with the central questions and focus areas of film and television studies well enough to form a personal opinion on the cultural and societal relevance of the discipline. You will also be able to place knowledge pertaining to film culture into the context of more general questions of art studies. Included in this are the first steps in learning to propose notions on phenomena in the field and their meaning on the basis of approaches you consider appropriate. You will also have a basic understanding of your personal orientation in terms of film culture.
