Kuvaus

The course unit is optional. The degree programme responsible of the unit is FoodHealth.
The course unit belongs to the module of Scientific content studies.

This course is targeted at PhD and MSc students who are interested in performing bacterial population analysis using whole-genome sequencing and/or using metagenomics for investigating microbial communities. When choosing course unit participants FoodHealth members are given first priority. Doctoral candidates from other doctoral programmes may be accepted if seats are available.

After completing the course unit the doctoral candidate is familiar with:

  • Statistical analysis with SPSS:
    • basic descriptive statistics, cross-tabulation analyses, t-tests, analysis of variance, analysis of covariance, linear regression analysis, logistic regression analysis, principal component and factor analysis, item analysis, cluster analysis, non-parametric methods (e.g., Mann-Whitney, Wilcoxon, Kruskall-Wallis, Friedman), effect size.
    • Possibly something about computational intelligence methods (neural networks, fuzzy logic, evolutionary computing).

In autumn and spring

  • basic descriptive statistics,
  • cross-tabulation analyses,
  • t-tests,
  • analysis of variance,
  • analysis of covariance,
  • linear regression analysis,
  • logistic regression analysis,
  • principal component and factor analysis,
  • item analysis,
  • cluster analysis,
  • non-parametric methods (e.g., Mann-Whitney, Wilcoxon, Kruskall-Wallis, Friedman),
  • effect size.

The course in organised in a computer room. Full-attendance is required.
