The course will provide students with an overview on 1) methods for studying sea/lake bottom structure, sediment properties and geochronology; 2) aquatic sedimentary environments; 3) sedimentation processes and sediments in aquatic environment
The course is offered every other year in period III (2019, 2021).
METHODS: Acoustic-seismic surveys, geochronological methods (e.g. radiometric, isotopic, and biological methods, paleomagnetism, annually laminated sediments, relative dating method), coring techniques, stratigraphical methods, physical sediment proxies, and integrated sedimentological and ichnological analysis. 2) DEPOSITIONAL ENVIRONMENTS AND SEDIMENTS: Deep-sea, glaciated shelves (Baltic Sea), lacustrine 3) PROCESSES: erosion/transportation/deposition, early diagenetic and biogenic alteration, geological physical, anthropogenic, and climatic forcing on sedimentation
