Maximum 60 participants. Students of masters programs of the Faculty of Social Sciences. Available also for the students of Master's Program in Contemporary Societies and exchange students. The course can substitute working life studies (career-related project). Depending on the available student places, the course is open to students of other programs.

Student will understand the diversity and nature of entrepreneurship discourses in work-life and public policy, and how entrepreneurship associates with different actor positions in work-life. Student will be familiar with key questions and theoretical approaches in social scientific study of entrepreneurship. Student will be able to recognize entrepreneurship talk in various contexts and reflect on the meaning and relevance of entrepreneurship for her/his own studies and career in labor markets.

Fourth period during the spring term 2020

Introduction to entrepreneurship discourses. From protestant ethics to enterprise culture. Versions of entrepreneurship and the question of agency. Entrepreneurship and working life in the light of statistics. Repertoires on individualism and psychological research on entrepreneurship. Relational repertoires: the social embedding of entrepreneurial agency. Public enterprise promotion: From SME policy to entrepreneurship policy. Entrepreneurship promotion at the University of Helsinki. Promoting entrepreneurial agency within social care work.

Online course (seven weeks): consists of online lectures and exams, readings, reflection and essay assignments

The course is a self-learning course and has weekly deadlines that must be followed. Therefore, later enrolments will not be accepted.

Readings will be announced during the course.

Graded on a scale of 0 to 5 (0 = Fail, 1 = Passable, 2 = Satisfactory, 3 = Good, 4 = Very Good, 5 = Excellent)
