Beskrivning

PhD students whose research topic relates to STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education. The course is aimed at students who are at the beginning/ half way of their PhD research project. At minimum it is suggested that students are have chosen their research topic and have defined (at least) preliminary research questions. The course/seminar can accommodate 8-20 students.

After the course student:

  • has a good understanding and knowledge of the research methods and theoretical approaches that are currently used in his/her own research topic area. Student is capable of discussing the strengths and weaknesses of different methods and approaches.
  • Is able to justify his/her own methodological and theoretical choices and place them in relation to the research tradition prevailing in their field.

Fall 2016 – spring 2017

  • To 8.9, klo 16.00 – 17.30 (2x 45 min,1,5t)
  • To 6.10, klo 16.00- 18.15 (3x 45 min, 2t 15 min)
  • To 10.11, klo 16.00 – 18.15 (3x 45 min, 2t 15 min)
  • To 1.12, klo 15.30 – 18.00 (4x 45 min, 3t)
  • To 12.1, klo 15.30 – 18.00 (4x 45 min, 3t)

In this course students will familiarize themselves with the latest scientific publications in their own research field. I.e. Students have the freedom to choose the literature he/she wants to study in more detail. We will analyse and categorize the publications based on the used theoretical and methodological approaches. During the course students will practice how to justify their own methodological and theoretical choices.

Active participation to the face-to-face meetings (4-5 mandatory meetings). Completing the home assignments and the final report.

pass/fail

This class is organized as a seminar where active participation of students is essential. Working methods include 4-5 face-to-face meetings with the group, independent studying (includes reading, home assignments, and making a final report), and presenting the final report to the group.
