DENVI and other University of Helsinki PhD students in need of some space and time to write!! Even if you are early in your PhD process and feel like you aren’t deeply engaged with article/dissertation writing – don’t feel unwelcome!! You can be working on proposals, grant applications, or other writing projects. As PhD students there is always something to write at any stage of the process!!
Does writing seem to always be the last thing you want to do? Are you faced with lots of interruptions at work and/or at home? Would you like to find a quiet space paired with peer support and advice from experienced academic writers? If you answered YES to any of those questions then our DENVI Autumn 2019 retreat is for you!
To be completed at any time during doctoral studies.
According to the schedule of taught courses.
A mix of short lecturers from experienced writers about the act and process of writing and quiet writing time to work on your own writing. The course is most effective if you come with a plan in mind of what you want to work on.
A more specific daily schedule will be distributed after registration. The main feature of the writing retreat will be quiet individual work time on your own writing. All participants will travel to Tvärminne together on the morning of October 16. We will travel back to Helsinki together at approximately 15 on October 18. All meals will be provided by the station and dietary needs can be accommodated if they are disclosed in advance. This will give you 3 days to write—free from any of the responsibilities of everyday life. In addition, over meals and evening social activities like the sauna, you will be able to spend time with your fellow doctoral students.
Lots of time to focus on your own writing project, interspersed with fellowship, food, and sauna! 2 ECTS can be earned for participation!
To be held at the Tvärminne Zoological Station
According to each course.
