Priority is given for the students if Master's Programme in Social Research

The student understands the aims of sustainability and can apply them when focusing on the problems of social welfare. The student is aware of the interconnectedness between the ecological, social and economic dimensions of sustainability and can analyse the tensions between current social welfare and long-term sustainability. The student sees how welfare state institutions are connected to global ecosocial development and is able to seek solutions to sustainability challenges.

What is sustainable welfare? How can welfare be provided in a more sustainable manner? The course discusses the concepts of social, ecological and economic sustainability from a global and Finnish perspective with reference to the welfare state system. The multidisciplinary course reader provides a broad understanding of sustainability and the connections between all dimensions of sustainability. The course focuses on tools for searching for sustainable policy solutions to promote human wellbeing.
